Intergeneration Celebration!
The
Mission of Intergeneration Day, celebrated worldwide the first
Sunday in October, is to connect generations through
communication, celebration, and education. Start planning
now for Intergeneration Day 2008 on October 5th starting intergeneration
Week.
Our
focus for 2008 is "Intergeneration Day Means Business."
Bringing people of different generations together is not only good for
individuals and our society, it's also good for business. If
you own a restaurant, retail shop, mini-golf course, or theater we
invite you to create your own intergeneration event. Any day,
any week, any month can and should be about connecting
generations.
Palisades at Broadmoor Park, Colorado
Springs, CO received the 2008 Intergeneration Day Means Business
Award. Jeff Dunn and Associates, in collaboration with Dr. Sara Qualls
of the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs
Graduate School of Psychology has created a unique environment for seniors.
Stories are also pouring in from around the world of Intergeneration Day
successes! Cheyenne Place, a resident community located
in Colorado Springs, celebrated with its second ever Intergeneration
Fun Day with games, a picnic, face painting and
costumes. Generations in Kapiti Coast, New Zealand, created art, music,
and meals. Elders and youngsters danced together, laughed together and shared ideas. With wit and humor civic
leaders and students debated the topic "To Be Old and Wise You First
Must Be Young and Stupid." View

The West Intergenerational Learning Center hosted a multi-cultural,
multi-generational
fair October 6. Please
send us your pictures and stories of intergeneration celebrations,
large or small. We'd love to post them on our web site.

Creating
an age-integrated community leads to a healthy community, where the
strengths of one generation meet the needs of another. All generations
grow in an appreciation for cultural heritages, traditions, histories and
values.
The mission of the Florida
Intergenerational Orchestra of America is to bring together the
generations with music and musical performances. This unique
orchestra environment encourages, nurtures and promotes closer
relationships between the generations.
The mission of Mt.
Kisco Day Care and My Second
Home is to strengthen families through intergenerational,
multi-cultural day care services that allow children and adults from
diverse backgrounds to interact on a regular basis. The foundation of
success rests on the belief that our wise elders and increasingly
savvy children need one another in order to thrive; rather than
simply survive.
Intergeneration Foundation combats age-segregation world-wide in the sponsorship of Intergeneration Day,
starting Intergeneration Week. Intergeneration Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of
October, but any day can be Intergeneration
Day!
36
states have endorsed Intergeneration Day. Help us make it a
truly national event. If you represent an organization in one of the
states where we are still seeking endorsement (Arkansas,
Vermont, Pennsylvania, Texas, New York, Utah, Wyoming, Georgia, South Carolina, West Virginia, Louisiana, Tennessee, and
Nevada.)
and would like to co-sponsor
a request for endorsement, please contact
