The Intergeneration 2011 Storytelling Contest was an enormous success, bringing in over 170 stories from around the world, a new record. Intergeneration Foundation would like to thank all of the storytellers who provided amazingly wonderful intergenerational tales, and the organizations that helped spread the word of the Contest to help make it the most successful ever. FLASH: American Library Association Endorses Intergeneration Day -
The American Library Association (ALA) passed a Resolution promoting Intergeneration Day. The AMA guiding principles include diversity, equity of access, education and 21st century literacy. The ALA endorsement cited Intergeneration Day as a factor in emphasizing that creating age-integrated community leads to a healthy community where strengths of one generation meet the needs of another.
FLASH: American Association of Museums Endorses Intergeneration Day!
The American Association of Museums, with 21,000 individual and institutional members, has issued a ringing endorsement of Intergeneration Day/Week. Ford W. Bell, AAM President, issued the endorsement, proclaiming Intergeneration Day/Week has done “yeoman work in bridging a nagging rent in our social fabric… the segregation of generations.” Museums play a vital role in bringing together generations. American Library Association passed a resolution to support the goals of
“Intergeneration Day Means Libraries.” In so doing, the ALA supports and promotes Intergeneration Day and Week. Additionally, more than thirty other LibraryAssociations have joined in the celebration.
